Bodycam: Late-Night Fight Call Ends in One Detention (video)

Officers answering a fight call just before midnight on Nov. 5, 2022 found a small group standing outside a glass door marked with police signage. One person there described a scene that began in an elevator: a young woman, a man accused of grabbing her, and repeated shouts for help. Minutes later, an officer radioed that one person would be detained.

A Fight Call Just Before Midnight

The body-worn footage opens at 23:59:50 outside a building entrance, where a group of people waits on the sidewalk in the dark. On the recording, an officer asks whether everybody is okay and whether they were involved in a fight. One voice answers that they were.

The timestamps roll past midnight into Nov. 6, and the file references more than one camera ID, a hint that several officers were recording. Officers separate the people, ask for hands to stay out of pockets, and begin taking statements. The group on camera moves between the doorway and the building's interior.

Faces in the footage are obscured, and the elevator itself never appears on screen. What is left is a sequence of voices explaining, in short pieces, how a quiet night turned into a police call.

What the Witness Described

One person tells an officer about an elevator scene: a young woman in a black t-shirt and a man described as trying to grab her, wearing a sweatshirt the witness links to UC and to black and red clothing. The witness says the woman was yelling and calling out for help.

The witness says they stepped in, told the man not to touch her, and told him to get away. According to that account, the man came at them, hit them, and took them to the ground. A second person at the scene tells an officer:

"He assaulted her, and he assaulted me."

That is the strongest claim in the clip. No charge is announced on the recording, and no one on camera offers a response to the accusation.

A Bitten Hand and One Detention

Asked how the struggle ended, the witness says they bit the man's hand so he would let go, and that he then got off. An officer repeats the detail back in plain words — that the witness was assaulted — and the witness agrees, while a second voice says the same thing happened to them.

An officer then tells one man to come along and asks him to keep his hands out of his pockets. On the radio comes the line that closes the exchange: "3-11, I'm gonna have one detained."

Frames show the walk through a brick-walled hallway past vending machines, where a young man in a Cincinnati hoodie is visible. An officer asks for an account of what happened, and the reply is that the person will give all the details.

What the Footage Leaves Open

The clip captures the shift from a loud, tense sidewalk to procedure: separating people, collecting short statements, and moving the matter indoors. It also leaves the central question unresolved. The elevator episode is described by those involved but never shown, and the recording ends without an announced outcome.

That is the unexpected turn many viewers noticed: a cry for help, a bystander who intervened, and a bitten hand that ended a struggle — all inside a few minutes of a late-night call.

The man the witness describes never gets to explain himself on the recording, and the clip does not show what happens to the person walked down the hallway. What remains is an officer asking calm questions, a witness describing a grab, a struggle and a hand bite, and a radio call that turns a sidewalk conversation into a detention. It left many questions, and few answers on camera.

If you heard someone shouting for help behind a closing elevator door, would you step in the way this witness describes — or call for help first?
